Maps of proximity is an attempt at enacting of what Vilém Flusser has proposed in Gestures as the gesture of searching. In a constantly changing world, and one with blurred boundaries (between public and private spheres and other traditional divides), the methodolgy for the gesture of searching the author proposes activates the environment that surrounds the searcher as something which defines their reality.
The tracing of proximities operates as a map, articulating the subject in a continuous dialogue with both the environment and surrounding entities, revealing intimacy as an intersubjective dimension. In this way, Maps of proximity, while limiting a space within the exhibiton space, acts as a proposal for the begining of rewriting the space for intimacy, and its engagement with the bodies and loci it encompasses, in their full complex and transitory nature.
